Did you know one of our most popular presidents, underwent a major dental operation, that ended with a whole section of his jaw being removed – and no one knew anything about it for 24 years. President Grover Cleveland, who underwent this procedure on a boat, which many oral surgeons say was a reckless idea, was fitted with an oral prosthesis, where the jawbone used to be so he could speak properly again.

What’s amazing is that this oral surgery took place in 1893, on a boat, in less than two hours. Today’s oral surgeons consider this a medical marvel, because the same surgery today would need several hours to complete – and would need to be done in an office, not on a boat that was moving at all times.
